Udhampur Police foiled a narcotics smuggling bid by recovering a huge quantity of psychotropic substance ‘poppy straw’ and held one person with more than 220 kgs of poppy straw at Motorshed, NHW, Chenani
Amid ongoing drive against drug trafficking and substance abuse, a police team of PS Chenani led by its SHO Inspr. S.D Singh while on naka checking at nakapoint Motorshed, NHW, Chenani stopped a truck bearing Registration number JK14G-1818 for checking which was coming from Srinagar towards Udhampur. In the process of search, a specially fabricated chamber was detected in the toolbox of the vehicle inside which 09 bags (total net quantity 222.450 kgs) filled with poppy straw like substance got recovered.
On preliminary inquiry, the driver disclosed his identity as Mohd Baber S/O Abdul Rashid R/O Champa, Tehsil Batote, District Ramban. The said accused Person was arrested on the spot, vehicle and contraband seized.
In this connection, a Case FIR NO. 167/2023 U/S 8/15 NDPS Act stands registered in P/S Chenani and investigation of the case has been taken up JK Police.
